Scout Team completes Incident Night Hike - 19-11-2011
A team of 5 scouts (Jack, Adrian, Owain, Dex, Mael) took part in the 15Km Incident Night Hike at the weekend. "Assisted" by Declan H (Explorer).
Initially it was a beautiful & clear evening. The stars were out and the weather looked like it was going to be glorious. The scouts set off at 6:30pm (after hurriedly calling Mum to bring walking boots - no names necessary). The stars looked down upon them as they slowly trudged their way through the South Oxfordshire countryside.
The hike is a test of navigation skills and scouts abilities to deal with "incidents" around the course. Apart from the minor heart palpitations caused by Dennis (Skip from the 2nd Methodist Scouts) the team seemed to manage well.
Meanwhile, back at basecamp, Steve (skip) was waiting anxiously as the weather started to close in. Initially just a small amount of fog (or mist - ask Vicky from 2nd Chilton) but soon the fog was condensing on the canopy and a local downpour started. Two steps outside the forest and not a drop... inside the forest it was torrential.
Fortunately, by the time the scouts returned to base camp (01:20) they were tired enough to sleep through the pitter patter of rain on their tents.
By 8:30 the following morning, and after a bacon sarnie the scouts were ready to head on home... except skip who had to nip home, grab a shower, and go to work.
Congratulations to all that took part and especially those that completed the hike.
