Cubs and Scouts entertain troops. - 05-12-2009
Following our recent visit to the 11th EOD in November, we were invited to sing carols at the Officers Christmas Dinner. The Mess was beautifully decorated and we were made to feel very welcome, having been served mince pies and hot chocolate before getting into position near the entrance to sing as the guests arrived.
Our favourite carols were Silent Night, Away in a Manger, Jingle Bells, Deck the Hall and While Shepherds Watched. Owain and Adrian gave us a lovely duet to introduce the Twelve Days of Christmas and Jonah recited the Scout Promise over Kumba Ya. We completed our 'performance' with a rousing 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas' before lighting our lanterns and taking our leave.
Everyone was exceptionally well behaved and the whole experience was both moving and joyous. We would like to thank Philip Shipman, a vetran of the 23rd, for playing the keyboards. He even thinks we have choir potential !
All in all this was a wonderful, priviledged experience that we hope to repeat in the future. We thank 11th EOD for the opportunity and look forward to developing our relationship with them over the future years.
